The 4s of Self
Self-esteem
Self-compassion
Self-acceptance
Self-actualisation
What is Self-esteem
Self-esteem is your overall sense of worth and value.
It is how you feel about yourself, your abilities and your self-image.
High self-esteem is associated with confidence, resilience, and a positive outlook on life, while low self-esteem can lead to feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and negative self-talk.
Building and maintaining healthy self-esteem is important for your overall mental and emotional well-being.
What is Self-compassion
Self-compassion is treating yourself with kindness, understanding, and acceptance in times of failure, struggle, or suffering.
Acknowledging your own humanity, imperfections, and difficulties without judgment or self-criticism.
Self-compassion involves being supportive and caring towards yourself, just as you would towards a friend or loved one in need.
It is a way to promote a positive and nurturing relationship with yourself, promoting emotional well-being and resilience in the face of challenges.
What is Self-acceptance
Self-acceptance is recognising and embracing your strengths, weaknesses, and unique qualities without judgment or criticism.
It involves being comfortable and confident with yourself, and not seeking validation or approval from others.
Self-acceptance is an important aspect of self-love and personal growth, as it allows you to fully appreciate and accept yourself for who you are, leading to greater happiness and fulfillment in life.
What is Self-actualisation
Self-actualisation is a term used in psychology to describe the process of realising and fulfilling your potential, and becoming the best version of yourself.
It involves personal growth, self-discovery, and achieving your goals and aspirations.
Self-actualisation is often associated with feelings of fulfillment, purpose, and authenticity.
Imagine the power and feeling of having all 4 of these
How you can build these:
There are many techniques you can use, and many are personal preference.
Here are some ideas:
Meditation (there's plenty of free meditations you can access on my YouTube channel)
Develop a relaxing evening ritual
Remind yourself of the things you are grateful for (make a gratitude list) or do some journalling
Read a book
Book a massage
Try some positive affirmations
Make a self-soothe box - it might include; photos of pets or loved ones, a notebook where you can write happy memories and gratitudes, include some cards, or nice messages from loved ones, a hand or face mask, a soothing room spray, essential oils, a puzzle book, a note of who you can talk to or contact
Find an opportunity to use your strengths, things that energise you
Take an action - what can you do to stop others hurting you or stop the hurt you are inflicting on yourself? Try saying "no", avoid toxic people
Ask for help
Talk things through with a trusted friend or family members
